CHOIL SCREENSAVER 1.0.0
https://choil.app/screensavers

MAC — macOS 12 or newer, Apple silicon and Intel
Unzip and double-click CHOIL.saver. Install for your user.
Select CHOIL in System Settings > Screen Saver (the location varies by macOS).
Open Options to choose a mode, folder, pace, brightness, and clock.
macOS may ask for access to the folder you select. Allow access to your photos.
To uninstall, select another saver, then remove CHOIL.saver from
~/Library/Screen Savers. This does not remove your photos.

WINDOWS — Windows 10/11, 64-bit
Extract the entire ZIP into a folder. Run Install CHOIL.cmd.
This copies CHOIL.scr into your local application data, without admin access,
and opens Windows Screen Saver Settings. Select CHOIL, choose an idle time,
and click Apply. Click Settings to customize the saver.
The bundled runtime means you do not need to install .NET separately.
This first Windows build is unsigned; Windows may show an unknown-publisher
or SmartScreen notice. Only use the download from choil.app.
To uninstall, select another saver, close its preview, then delete
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CHOIL Screensaver. This does not remove your photos.

MODES
Orbit: silver metal with blue accent lighting. The C and dot circle in
opposite directions, reunite, and pause as the logo before separating.
My Knives: your selected CHOIL vault photos, automatically separated from
their backgrounds and animated with perspective tilt and sweeping motion.
Each photo fades completely to black before the next appears.
Turn off Remove backgrounds or Float in 3D to use original photos instead.
Background removal runs on your computer and caches cutouts; original files
are never edited. Mac cutouts require macOS 14+. Older Macs show originals.
Best results use a single knife; stands and other props can remain.
The animation tilts a photo; it does not reconstruct unseen sides of a knife.
In settings, click Choose knives from my CHOIL vault. Sign in on the website,
select your knives, and Save selection for screensaver. Back in settings,
click Import CHOIL vault selection, choose the downloaded .choilvault file,
and save. This file contains the photos themselves: playback works offline.
Mix: changes mode every minute. Photo mode falls back to Orbit if empty.
Pace: 10 seconds is faster; 60 is slower. Also sets the photo hold time.
Brightness: 20–100%. Clock, shuffle, and filenames are optional.
Clock and photo labels travel across the screen; no fixed branding overlay.
All modes briefly fade to black every two minutes. Keep display sleep enabled,
especially on OLED: motion and fades cannot guarantee prevention of burn-in.
The saver uses your system's sleep and password-on-resume settings.

PHOTOS
Select a dedicated folder containing up to 500 photos; subfolders are not read.
JPG, PNG, TIFF, and BMP work on both platforms. Mac also supports HEIC/HEIF.
For Windows, export iPhone HEIC images as JPG first.
Invalid or unreadable images are skipped. If no usable images remain, Orbit runs.
Folder contents are refreshed whenever the saver starts. Photos stay on your
computer: no account login, uploads, telemetry, or internet connection.
Windows uses bundled U²-Net and ONNX Runtime; licenses are included.
To clear cutout caches, remove the Cutouts folder in local application data
on Windows, or ~/Library/Caches/app.choil.screensaver/cutouts on Mac.
Vault selections are snapshots. To change them, save and import a new
selection from https://choil.app/screensavers#vault. Older imported selections
remain in local application data until you remove them or uninstall.
